Today we biked and drove the same route: Rt 26 from Mount Hood to Prineville, OR. The landscape from Mount Hood to Madras was
jaw-droppingly beautiful. The Cascade
Mountains were NW of us (it’s amazing how many of the mountains are snow capped)
and we rode through huge plateaus and valleys.
Along the way, Linda and I stopped for a short hike at Smith Rock State
Park. Folk lore says that Smith Rock was
the birthplace of rock climbing in the US.
More beauty.
The guys had their first-of-two consecutive long, long
days. It started out very chilly in Mt.
Hood (63F) and ended in a very sunny 86F.
Our planning wasn’t so great.
Turns out that we were staying 13 miles away from their stop point,
Prineville. After 105 miles and 6639
feet elevation, another 13 hilly miles wasn’t on the menu. So, I picked them up in Prineville this
evening and tomorrow morning Linda will drive them back to Prineville to start
Day 4.
